Kathmandu– Around 40 per cent of women get married before the age of 18 in rural areas of the country. One out of six women getting married early becomes the victim of physical violence, revealed a report.

A report related to importance of comprehensive sexuality education in informal sector, released by TAN Nepal, a non-government office, stated that of the women who marry at an early age, 35 per cent are compelled to give up their study.
The report also pointed out the need of imparting sexuality education at home as there is maximum number of school dropout children as well as working in informal sector.

Chairperson of the organisation, Jyotsana Lum, said that the society should be made aware by making the sexuality education more effective at school level.

She said sexuality education would help stop the early marriage, control unsafe abortion and spread awareness regarding violence against women.

Similarly, Director at the Education and Human Resources Development Centre, Badri Poudel, expressed the view that women should be made aware, positive, empowered, active, strong, educated and independent to build a civilized society.
