Four children of parents without citizenship certificates provided birth certificates

Phidim– Four children, who have been facing difficulties in study because their parents had no citizenship certificates, have been provided birth registration certificates.

Chandralal Baraili of Sambewa of Hilihang rural municipality-7, Panchthar and his spouse do not have citizenships as poverty, illiteracy and ignorance worked as preventive force in their case to acquire the state identity card.

Barsina, Karishma, Santosh and Deepak have now got their birth registration certificates which would clear legal hurdles ahead to complete the school education. Barsina was repeating the same class for the past four years as she did not have the birth certificate.

Panchthar Chief District Officer Prakash Chandra Adhikari took the responsibility for coordinating efforts to ensure the certificates to the children. The government bodies, local social organisations and leaders took initiations for these children’s rights.

District Coordination Committee Panchthar Chief Bishnu Prasad Sapkota, CDO Adhikari, local representatives and the administrator visited the Baraili family to take stock of their condition.

Barsina has been repeating the class eight since the past four years as she could not appear in the final exam being unable to fill up the exam form which requires the birth registration certificate. She lives on the charity of the family of local Rudra Tamang.

CDO Adhikari confirmed the children have now birth certificates.
Barsina's younger brother Santosh could not continue his study for the same reason and sister Karishma is studying in grade six. The family has received assistance materials worth Rs 50,000 as well with the help of individuals and organisations.
