Landfill site construction in Nepalgunj expedited

Nepalgunj – The construction of a landfill site stretched across 13 bigha in Nepalgunj has been accelerated. 

The 28-month project has seen 70 per cent of completion in construction so far, according to the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City Deputy Mayor, Uma Thapa Magar. 

The construction of landfill site is assisted by the Asian Development Bank and Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City. 

Deputy Mayor Thapa Magar shared that additional nine months’ time was extended since the construction of landfill site with the capacity to process 24 tonnes garbage daily could not be completed on time. 

She was of the confidence that the garbage produced in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City could be managed effectively once the landfill site would come into operation. 

Garbage in the landfill site will be segregated into degradable and non-degradable waste, and it will be piled under mud, informed engineer Prakash DC. 

The construction cost of the landfill site is more than Rs 330 million. Remaki and NANCJV Kuleshower have been entrusted with the responsibility of the construction. 

The Sub-Metropolitan City has also planned to make organic manure from the garbage and keep it for sale.
