Education Minister urges Korea to increase assistance to Nepal

Kathmandu – Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel has appreciated the Republic of Korea for the notable assistance it has provided to Nepal in development, study, training and ICT sectors. 


He expressed this during a meeting with the ROK ambassador to Nepal, Young-sik Park, at the Ministry of Education in Singha Durbar today. The Education Minister stated that the education sector from school to higher education of Nepal have benefited with the Korean support. 


Noting the relation and cooperation between the two countries as special, Minister Pokhrel said many Nepali students are studying in South Korea and still many more youths working there. He expressed happiness over South Korea expanding its official development assistance in different development endeavours of Nepal. 


The Education Minister said during the meeting, “In addition to regular projects, we have submitted two new proposals to Korean government through KOICA. Hope the projects will be able to strengthen learning environment in Jhapa district and increase access of least advantaged youths to quality technical and vocational training by establishing polytechnic in Mahottari district.” 


Stating that Nepal is moving forward with the broader vision of national prosperity following the implementation of the constitution, he said the South Korean experience, technical and other supports would be instrumental for materializing this goal. 


On the occasion, Education Minister extended sincere gratitude for inviting him to participate in the “2018 Global ICT Leadership Forum” that is going to be held in Seoul on 15-18 November 2018. 


Ambassador Park said he takes the policy adopted by the Government of Nepal regarding the technical education and vocational training positively and pledged further support in this sector.
