Darchula exports sheep and mountain goats to Pokhara and Kathmandu

Darchula – Sheep and mountain goats have been exported to Kathmandu and Pokhara from here for the upcoming Dashain and Tihar festivals. 


As many as 750 sheep and mountain goats have been exported to these two cities from the Apihimal, Marma and Naugad rural municipalities and the Shailyashikhar municipality this Dshain and Tihar festivals, the Traffic Police station at Gokuleshwar said. 


The District Livestock Service Office checked the health of 260 sheep and 473 mountain goats and certified for export, veterinary doctor at the Office, Mohan Dev Bhatta, said. 


The District Livestock Service Office said Darchula used to import sheep and mountain goats for the Dashain and Tihar festivals from Tibet before this whereas this year these animals have been exported from the district. 


Tibetan sheep and mountain goats have not been imported so far this time, Byas rural municipality ward chairperson Ashok Singh Bohara said. 


Mohan Singh Airee, a local truck entrepreneur, said traders here have sent sheep and mountain goats to Pokhara by paying Rs 70,000 as transportation charge. 


The demand for sheep, mountain goats and poultry is high during the Dashain and Tihar festivals as there is practice of animal sacrifice to the deities on the occasion of these festivals.
