Kathmandu – Minister for Land Reform, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Padma Kumari Aryal, has directed the subordinate bodies and all other concerned offices to use the authentic map of the country which is certified by the Survey Department.
During a programme organized by the Ministry on cartography and use of map in the capital city today, Minister Aryal argued that the use of only authentic map of the country could promote nationality.
The authentic map provides clear information on country's geography and its features, she said, adding that the concerned bodies need to be serious and sensitive because the country's maps produced by various organizations were faulty.
Those selling inauthentic maps would be punished, she warned. Ministry Secretary Gopinath Mainali informed that a taskforce would be formed to investigate whether the country's map used in all government offices have used genuine maps.
Deputy Director General of Survey Department, Sureshman Shrestha, said the map published by the Gorkhapatra daily on September 18 last year had missed Kalapani. After finding the fault, it was corrected later, he added. ----
