Kathmandu – The Pasang Lhamu Mountaineering Foundation has felicitated three female Mount Everest climbers amidst a programme here today.
The foundation has been established in the commemoration of the late Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, who made her history as the first Nepali woman to scale the world's highest peak in 1993. She died while descending from the mountain summit.
The late Sherpa has been given the status of a national luminary.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Gokul Prasad Baskota, honoured Lakpa Yangdi Sherpa, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa (second) and Yangdi Sherpa of Khumbu Pasang Lhamu rural municipality in Solukhumbu who on May 16 this year reached atop the world's highest mountain, carrying photos the late Sherpa and the late veteran communist leader Madan Bhandari.
On the occasion, the Minister congratulated the three female climbers on their success, pledging future support to the team.
Offering his words of respect to the late Sherpa, the minister remembered her as an inspiring figure for all who took a great courage to prove her strength in the adventurous tourism.
On the occasion, he also eulogised leader Bhandari as the epitome of democratic, patriotic and social justice movement of Nepal.
The climbing by three women climbers send a different wave and message to the world, he said.
