Kathmandu – Tulasipur Sub-Metropolitan City, Dang, of Province no 5 is going to be developed as the first 'Sport City' of Nepal.
The preliminary report released by a taskforce formed by the National Sports Council (NSC) said that it would be suitable to construct Sports City in Tulasipur.
The taskforce formed under coordination of NSC Board member Binod Mainali around seven months ago drew the conclusion in this regard.
Member of Mid-Western Regional Sports Committee, Bhim Oli, Sport experts—Nilendraraj Shrestha and Shivaraj Bhatta and Chairperson of District Sports Development Committee, Dang, Dilli Bahadur Dangi, were the members of the taskforce.
The taskforce determined Tulasipur Sub-Metropolitan City for the Sports City due to various reasons including sufficient number of playground, positive thinking if locals towards sports, facility of transport service, construction of physical infrastructures for food and accommodation.
Sports City plays a significant role in producing national and international level sportspersons thereby enhancing the national prestige, in the development amd construction of sports infrastructures fit for organising national and international sports competitions and in the promotion of sports industries and tourism.
The taskforce prepared the report after conducting an on-site study and observation, holding the required discussions and interactions with the local persons, organisations and bodies concerned, studying and analyzing the reference materials and assessing the topographical features of the place.
President of the District Sports Development Committee, Dangi, said they were committed to extending the necessary support to the sub-metropolis for implementing the concept of Sports City.
Mayor of Tulasipur Sub-Metropolitan City, Ghanashyam Pandey, shared that a stadium was being constructed in the sub-metropolis at a cost Rs 240 million and a covered hall was being constructed at Ward No 6 of the sub-metropolis at an investment of Rs 20 million for the implementation of the Sports City concept. ---
