New communications related laws to be made: Communications Minister Baskota

Pokhara – Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Banskota has said that the government is working to make new communications related laws. 


At a programme organised to honour former President of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Dharmendra Jha with 'Dayashankar Palikhe Memorial National Journalism Award, 2074', Minister Banskota said that laws include advertisement to provide to small-scale media. 


The award was establishedp by freedom fighter, Daya Shanker Palikhe's family and run by Federation of Nepali Journalists, Kaski. 


Work is ongoing on the classification of community and commercial radios and establishment of media council, said the minister. 


Suggesting that media should be critical, he said the government would regulate social networking sites to stop its misuse. 


On the occasion, former President of FNJ, Jha, was honoured with Rs 33,333, letter of felicitation. 
The honoured personality Jha said that the society would regulate the journalism, saying questions have been raised on various issues including relevance of journalism. 


Similarly, Minister for Physical Infrastructure of the provincial government, Ram Sharan Basnet, expressed the view that the role of journalism sector would be crucial in journey of country's propriety. (Photo available)
