Community named after NEA executive director Ghising

Baniyani, Jhapa –Until few years ago, power outage up to 16 hours a day in winter was the part of people's daily lives. Needless to say, with the entry of Kulman Ghising to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) as the executive director, things had started changing. Now the duration of load shedding hours has significantly gone down nationwide, giving a great respite to the people.

A settlement situated on the border of Kankai Municipality-4 and Shibasatakshhi Municipality-10 has been named the 'Kulman Ghising Chowk' in recognition to the NEA executive director who earned huge popularity for his act. People of Tekra settlement have willfully given a new name to the community.

Some 100 households at Tekra, out of 200, had no way to using oil-fed lamps for no electricity in the past. A low voltage system was the headache of people.

The locals finally got an opportunity to put their issue before the NEA executive director and were assured of the solution to their problem. Shortly after the meeting, under the 'Ujyalo Nepal Programme' a transmitter with the capacity of 100 KVA, electric poles and wire were installed in the area at the cost of Rs 2.2 million, ensuring regular power supply system, according to NEA Anarmani chief Jitendra Kumar Jha.

The settlement that lies six kilometres south from Surunga along the East-West Highway now displays a hoarding board bearing the photo of Ghising.

The availability of regular power supply system has been a help for irrigation works well, it is said. ---
