Discussion on name and provincial capital for Province No 4 to be held today

Pokhara – Today's Provincial Assembly meeting being held in Pokhara is set to hold discussion on determining the name of Province No 4 and its capital. 


Earlier, the Name and Provincial Capital Recommendations Committee on June 4 had submitted the Provincial Assembly a report floating four viable names for the same. 


Gandaki, Tamuwan-Magarat, Gorkha and Dhawalagiri were the names recommended by the Committee put orderly in terms of preference of the people. 


The Committee had gathered suggestions from the people in various districts in the Province to voice their preference concerning naming their province and determining its capital. 


The major opposition Nepali Congress (NC) had disrupted the assembly meetings on June 24 and 25 objecting that concerned authorities did not hold discussion with them on the same issue.

 
The irate opposition yet again disrupted the assembly meeting thrice during which the meeting was continued deploying marshal in the meeting hall. 


Meanwhile, the Tamuwan Magarat Joint Struggle Committee has staged a sit-in protest at Nadipur demanding Province No 4 to be named Tamuwan Magarat. 


The local administration has declared restricted areas to the areas stretching between Nadipur and the place where the provincial Assembly meeting is being held now. (photo available)
