Dhangadhi – A woman was killed in a powerful storm that lashed Kailali district last night.
Charumati Budha, 56, of Maghigaon, Guariganga Municipality-1, died when the ceiling of her brick and tile house collapsed due to the storm, the Area Police Office, Chaumala stated.
Meanwhile, another person sustained burn injuries and a buffalo was killed when fire broke out at the house and cowshed amidst the storm at the same place.
The strong gale that lasted for about half an hour blew away the tin and tile roofs of many houses in Kailali district. It also brought down electricity poles and snapped power supply lines. Mobile and landline telephone services are also down in several places in the district.
Roads have been blocked at some places as the trees uprooted by the storm are lying on the road. The full extent of damage has not been assessed yet, according to the District Administration Office, Kailali.
