Finance Minister Karki's strongly worded direction to implement budget

Kathmandu - Finance Minister Gyanendra Bahadur Karki has urged the secretary and chiefs of the departments under the Ministry to work effectively, so that country's economic growth rate would continue rising.

In a strongly worded direction, he said, "Be mindful, the programmes you implement and the money you spend determines country's economic growth for prosperity."

The context he was speaking at was the implementation of budget and role of the bureaucrats to ensure development to poor, and marginalized people.

The representatives of the permanent government were made aware of the results the country was suffering from unaccountability, deferral, and lack of coordination while executing development works.

He expressed sheer wonder over 41 percent expenditure of budget in the last month of fiscal year, while 13.5 percent in the concluding week. He ruled out the chance of such anomaly of spending budget at the concluding days of the fiscal year.

"The last year budget was prepared as per your proposal. Then, why wasn't it implemented well," he questioned the attendees, urging them to identify the gaps between budget formulation and its implementation.

"Secretaries, you become serious," he underscored.

On the occasion, Finance Secretary Shantaraj Subedi also emerged tough, urging the subordinates to strictly abide by the 45-point guideline of budget implementation.
