Creating history, Nepal make it to maiden final of SAFF Championship

KATHMANDU: Restricting Bangladesh to a 1-1 draw in their final group-stage match played on Wednesday, Nepal entered into the final of the SAFF Championship for the first time. 

Though Nepal conceded a goal in the ninth minute through a header by Sumon Reza, Nepal’s Anjan Bista scored an equalizer for his side in the 88th minute on a penalty. 

Bangladeshi goalkeeper Anisur Rahman Zico was sent off the ground as he faced a red card in the 79th minute. 

Meanwhile, India and the Maldives are playing the final match of the group stage at 9:45 NST on Wednesday itself. 

Nepal are at the top of the points table with seven points after four games including two wins [one against the Maldives and the other against Sri Lanka], one draw and a loss [against India].
