NC, CPN (MC) vow to take initiations to build amendment friendly atmosphere

Kathmandu -Two major political parties--the Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre)-- have vowed to hold necessary discussions with all political parties in the Legislature-Parliament to build an atmosphere in favour of the constitution amendment proposal. 


A meeting of three political parties- the NC, CPN ( MC) and the Rastriya Janata Party ( RJP) Nepal that held at the Prime Minister's official residence, Baluawatar Tuesday agreed to hold further discussions with all political parties to this regard. 


Talking to media persons following the meeting, NC senior leader Ramchandra Poudel said the meeting concluded with the agreement to make further efforts to convince the RJP Nepal to take part in the election and to garner a two-third majority required to pass the amendment proposal. 


The RJP has put some conditions before the government to participate in the election. The party's demands are increase in the number of local levels on the basis of population, declaration of those died during the Terai-Madhes movement as martyrs, withdrawal of cases filed against it cadres during the movement, treatment expense and compensation to the injured. 


Talking to media after the meeting, CPN (MC) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha said the meeting ended positively and was focused on creating an atmosphere for convincing the RJP Nepal to participate in the election. 


RJP leader Sharat Singh Bhandari said the government was found serious on addressing their demands including the amendment of constitution, so it would result in positive development soon. 


"We're also responsible for making two-thirds majority for amendment of constitution," he added. 


The meeting was attended by Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, Maoist Centre Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, RJP leaders Mahanth Thakur and others.
