UML Chairman Oli announces to resurrect party as it was on May 16, but on condition

KATHMANDU, June 7: Prime Minister and Chairman of the ruling CPN-UML, KP Sharma Oli has announced to revive the party mechanism as it was on May 16, 2018.

Issuing a statement with a six-point proposal on Sunday evening, Chairman Oli, in an apparent bid to convince the dissident faction led by the senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, said that the announcement was to keep party unity intact.

“UML will be resurrected to its earlier life as it was before May 17, 2018. Party’s Central and Standing committees will be reinstated,” said Oli in his announcement.

Oli, however, demanded that the lawmakers of the recently dissolved House of Representatives (HoR) from the party withdraw their signatures, which they had submitted while proposing Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba.

It is to be noted that the ruling party had signed a merger deal with the CPN (Maoist Center) on May 17, 2018 and formed the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) following the successful election campaign through the Left Alliance in 2017 general elections.

However, the Supreme Court (SC) said the the NCP’s name clashed with Rishi Kattel’s party and invalidated the erstwhile ruling party, reviving UML and Maoist again.
