KMC provides hotline number 1180 in aid of people without food

KATHMANDU, June 3: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has urged people having problem managing food during the lockdown to call at hotline number 1180 for assistance. 

A majority of the districts across the country have implemented lockdown to prevent the spread of the second wave of COVID-19. KMC said anyone needing foodstuff for sustenance during the lockdown period to make a call at its hotline.

KMC had distributed food and groceries to people facing food shortage during the time of the first wave of COVID-19 pandemic last year. It had done so in coordination with various organisations and with its wards.

"The number of people coming in contact of KMC citing problem managing food is very less this time compared to last year. We are providing support to those coming to us with this problem through the ward office. I urge anyone facing problem of food shortage to inform us by dialing at 1180 for help," KMC spokesperson Ishwor Man Dangol said.

He said after getting the information, the KMC will provide the required foodstuffs to the needy person from the respective ward where the person seeking support resides.

Meanwhile, KMC has brought into operation a total 20 ambulances free of charge for facilitating in the treatment of patients. Out of these ambulances, 10 are meant for COVID-19 patients and the remaining 10 for non-COVID patients. 

Anyone needing ambulance service can call at 102. 
Dangol said so far 22 thousand COVID-19 patients and 12 thousand non-COVID patients have availed of this service.

Similarly, the KMC has brought into operation 309-bed isolation and special hospital for easing the sheer number of patients needing oxygen at hospitals in view of the situation obtaining from oxygen shortage. 

Out of 62 thousand 383 coronavirus infection cases reported in KMC so far, 51thousand 167 have recovered while 10 thousand 95 are in home isolation and 186 are in institutional isolation.  The number of active infection cases is 10 thousand 797 and of them 516 are under treatment in hospitals. Four hundred and nineteen people have died of COVID-19.
