Bheri Hospital Incident: Murder-charge filed against accused,health workers return to work

KATHMANDU, May 28: A murder-charge has been filed against those involved in attacking the health workers at the Banke-based Bheri Hospital on Thursday evening. 

After the death of a corona infected patient, relatives vandalised the COVID-19 ward and attacked a doctor and two nurses on Thursday night. Police arrested Man Bahadur Raut, Bharat  Raut  and Lokraj Raut of Dang’s Tulsipur.

Deputy Inspector General of Lumbini Province Police Office, Rabindra Dhanuk told Ratopati that the investigation into the case has been initiated after registering  the case against the accused people. He added, "Man Bahadur Rawat seemed to have led the attack. We are also looking for his old criminal records.”

According to the statements from the medics they had saved their lives by jumping  off the windows after a group led by the deceased's brother Man Bahadur attacked them. Those involved in the attack are from Tulsipur Sub-Metropolitan-11 Urhari of Dang.

The local administration formed a seven-member probe committee headed by Banke’s  Assistant Chief District Officer Shankar Bahadur Bista to investigate the incident. The committee has already started work to find out the facts of the incident and submit a report within three days.

Health workers return to their work

Health professionals, who were staging protests against the incident demanding security,  have returned to work after Banke Chief District Officer Shivaram Gelal and Lumbini DIG Rabindra Dhanuk ensured security at their workplace  and stern action against those involved in the incident. According to DIG Dhanuk, a group of 25 security personnel has been deployed at the hospital under the command of a police inspector for security.
