Nepal’s COVID-19 caseload hits 287,567

1,736 new cases added on Tuesday alone

KATHMANDU, APril 21: Nepal’s COVID-19 tally has reached 287,567 as 1,736 new cases of the viral disease were detected across the country on Tuesday alone. 

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), a total of 2,360,557 real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) tests have been conducted to detect those cases as of Tuesday afternoon. 

As many 275,806 have so far recovered from the disease, which accounts for 95.9 percent of the total infections. 

The officials confirmed 11 other deaths linked with COVID-19 infection in the past 24 hours. This takes the total fatalities to 3,102.  The first death due to COVID-19 infection in Nepal was reported on May 16 last year. 

With the second wave of the disease spreading at a rapid rate, the country has witnessed a sharp spike in the new infections in the recent days.
