20 militants killed in Afghanistan's northern Kunduz province

A total of 20 militants have been killed in Imam Sahib district of northern Kunduz province over the past 24 hours as cleanup operations continue in the restive district, provincial police spokesman Inamudin Rahmani said Thursday.

"Twenty Taliban militants have been killed in Imam Sahib district over the past 24 hours and 15 more including Hafiz Omar, the shadow governor for the restive district, injured," Rahmani told Xinhua.

Backed by fighting planes, the cleanup operations would last until the district is cleared from insurgents, the official said, without providing information of possible casualties on security personnel.

Taliban militants who are active in parts of Kunduz province are yet to make a comment.
