KMC to implement Nepal bhasa curriculum in schools

Kathmandu - Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced to implement local curriculum of the Nepal bhasa language from this academic session in all schools in the KMC. With this provision, students from grade 1 to 8 in both the institutional and community schools should have to study local textbooks of the Nepal bhasa language.

A meeting of the 51st municipal executive of KMC held under the chair of KMC Mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya took this decision. The constitution of Nepal has given right to the local government to decide on the basic and secondary education and Local Government Act, 2074 has stated the right to implement by developing local curriculum.

On the same basis, the KMC is going to implement the local curriculum from grade 1 to 8 aiming to inform the students about the local identity and culture. According to KMC, the curriculum includes issues about local festivals, custom, cultures, geographical status, health and sanitation, livelihood, language and scripts. Similarly, the KMC has formed a five-member task force to advance integrated garbage management project of Kathmandu Valley. Deputy Mayor Hari Prava Khadgi will lead the team as decided.
