DPM Pokhrel directs for effective coordination

Kathmandu - Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Ishwor Pokhrel has directed the ministry officials and subordinate bodies to make effective the coordination among the ministries for the implementation of national pride projects and government activities. At the annual progress review of the Ministry for the last fiscal year, DPM Pokhrel underscored the need that no office can ignore development activity as a duty of a single office but work in cooperation.

The concerted efforts from the ministry and related bodies are imperative to ensure effective result. "Formality with correspondence is mere departmentalism. Only vertical responsibility among the related bodies and officials do not work, it should be horizontal," he reminded and showed concern over the absence of representatives invited from other ministries in the meeting. On the occasion, issues as cutting down trees on the Kathmandu-Nijgadh fast-track, dispute on Khokana land, selection of consultant and inter-ministry coordination featured significantly.

Vice-Chairman of the National Planning Commission, Dr Pushpa Raj Kandel, stressed the need to break the traditional approach of project implementation. Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa said there were challenges before the modernization of Nepal Army due to slow reconstruction activities.

Defense Secretary Reshmi Raj Pande argued that the national pride project of Kathmandu-Nijgadh fast track could not materialize if the efforts to incite Khokana people were not frustrated. It was informed in the meeting that 80 percent works under the ministry were completed in the last fiscal year.
