NC demands to extend deadline to pay tax

Kathmandu - Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has demanded that the government immediately withdraw the deadline determined by the Finance Ministry to pay tax. The NC leader also asked the government to evaluate the current situation and to extend the deadline. Issuing a press release today, NC President Deuba said that it was the responsibility and duty of the government to facilitate the tax payers at a time when the tax payers have been facing adverse situation.

It may be noted that the government, through the Department of Inland Revenue, has asked the taxpayers to clear their dues by June 7. "Formulating necessary laws to address the complexities facing entrepreneurs and bringing various programmes of relief are the responsibility of the government. But it is not serious in make appropriate arrangement of relief despite frequent request of opposition party for the same. Asking the people to pay tax in this lockdown period is insensitive act of government towards the citizens,” reads the release.

Saying the government has not been seen taking necessary initiative and concrete action plan to run small and big scale enterprises by carrying out PCR, the former Prime Minister drew government’s attention to hold discussion with bodies concerned in order to ease challenge of overall sector.
