South Korea to assist Nepal in developing smart cities

Nawalparasi - The South Korean government has pledged support in transforming Nepal's six local tiers into smart cities. 

South Korea will be lending diverse economic support for sustainable development of two metropolitan cities including Kathmandu and four municipalities. 

One of the other metropolitan cities is Pokhara whereas the municipalities include Ramgram in Nawalparasi, Nilkantha in Dhading, Dhulikhel in Kavre and Bhaktapur. 

Ramgram municipality's Major, Narendra Kumar Gupta, confirmed that the South Korean government will be helping those local levels with a strategic framework. 

The information was let out during the International City Summit and Mayors' Forum held from September 10 to 13 in Seoul, the capital of South Korea. 

Mayor Gupta shared further that during the summit, information on diverse strategies for sustainable development in transforming Nepal's six markets into smart cities had been divulged. 

The summit was attended by 130 mayors from 50 different countries from around the globe. On the occasion, an extensive report on South Korea's all-round development works spanning 35 years was also provided to the participants. 

The six – member Nepali delegation comprising the chiefs of the local tiers was given a tour of the Science and Research Centre in South Korea.
