Birendranagar to produce organic fertilizer, bio-gas from garbage

Birendranagar–For the first time in Karnali State, Birendranagar Municipality is preparing to produce energy from garbage following a trilateral agreement of the municipality, Alternative Energy Promotion Centre and KP Commercial Service Company. As agreed upon, a target is set to produce 720 kilogrammes biogas and nine metric tonnes of organic manure on daily basis from the project of total 30 metric tonnes.

The generated gas will be supplied from the pipeline in a total of 1300 households in the municipality. The officials said that both the detail project report and preliminary environment impact assessment report have been readied.

Mayor of the city Deb Kumar Subedi said that the project would be completed within a year adding that land and other basic infrastructures were already managed.

"After segregating the garbage, bio-gas and organic fertilizer will be produced. The bio-gas will be produced from the cow farming based at Simalkuna, Birendrangar-11," Subedi added.

This move shall help in the Karnali State government's goal to making it an 'organic region', he believed. As shared, the Centre will provide a total of 40 per cent in grant for the project implementation while 60 percent would be covered by the project developers. The total cost of the project is estimated to be around 141.5 million.

To be built in design-build-finance-operate and handover modality, it will be the 20-year-long project and would be handed over to the municipality.
