22 college students injured in picnic bus accident in Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur–A bus (Ba 5 Kha 4286) carrying college students and lectures for a picnic today skidded off the road and fell at Ghyampedanda of Suryabinayak municipality-8 in the district, injuring at least 22 students.

The picnic was organised by Kathmandu-based Madan Bhandari Memorial College. Two of the injured students, who are in serious condition, are receiving treatment at Bhaktapur Hospital and the rest at Sallaghari-based Dr. Iwamura Memorial Hospital, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Chakra Raj Joshi, chief of the Metropolitan Police Circle, Jagati. A big accident was averted as the bus stuck on tree branches, he said.

Likewise, 13 people were injured when a bus skidded off the road and fell at Hardi of Rapti municipality-6 in East Chitwan. Other passengers of the bus (Ba 3 Kha 8490) have been rescued unhurt, said Ek Narayan Koirala, Spokesperson for the district police office, adding that the injured are receiving treatment at various hospitals in the district. The vehicle carrying the total 23 passengers was headed to Narayangadh from Birgunj.
