Magnitude quake strikes off eastern Indonesia

JAKARTA– An 5.5-magnitude earthquake jolted Indonesia's eastern province of Maluku on Wednesday, the meteorology and geophysics agency said here.

The quake struck at 13:04 p.m. Jakarta time (0604 GMT) with the epicenter at 188 km northwest Maluku Tenggara Barat and the depth at 191 km under sea bed.

The quake has no potential to trigger tsunami.Indonesia is prone to quake as it sits on a vulnerable quake-hit zone so called "the Pacific Ring of Fire."
