KHARTOUM–Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Saturday headed to the United States for an official six-day visit, official SUNA news agency reported.
Hamdok is scheduled to hold talks with U.S. officials over bilateral cooperation, the report said. Earlier, Sudan's Finance Minister Ibrahim Elbadawi said Hamdok will also meet head of the World Bank and executive director of the International Monetary Fund to review lifting the sanctions imposed on Sudan.
The U.S. started imposing economic sanctions on Sudan in 1997 and has been listing it as one of the countries sponsoring terrorism since 1993.
However, in October 2017, the U.S. decided to lift its economic sanctions on Sudan permanently, but kept it on its terror sponsors list. Removing Sudan from the U.S. terror list remains one of the biggest challenges facing the transitional government, formed last September.
