Indian film festival to commemorate Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary

MUMBAI– India will hold a Gandhi Film Festival from Oct. 2 to Oct. 6 in Mumbai to commemorate the India's "Father of the Nation" Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary that falls on Wednesday, a statement from the Mumbai government's press bureau said late Monday.

The select documentaries and feature films to be screened include Shyam Bengal's "The Making of Mahatma" and Richard Attenborough's "Gandhi," both produced by the National Film Development Corporation, and "Gandhi My Father" directed by Feroz Abbas Khan under Anil Kapoor Production among others.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, popularly called Mahatma Gandhi and India's Father of the Nation, fought the British rule to seek India's independence by employing non-violent resistance, which inspired civil rights movement and freedom across the world.

Renowned actor Shri Darshan Jariwala, who had essayed the role of Gandhiji in the film "Gandhi My Father" will be presented as chief guest at the inaugural function, which is open to all on Wednesday morning, the statement said.
