FNJ urges for Dashain allowance to working journalists

Kathmandu–The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has urged all media houses to fully pay working journalists in view of the upcoming Dashain festival and ensure them the festival allowance.

A meeting of the FNJ office bearers and members available in the central capital held here on Wednesday decided to urge media houses; and exert pressure on them, if necessary, to provide the entire remuneration to working journalists, FNJ general secretary Ramesh Bista said.

Besides, the meeting agreed to conduct a monitoring of media houses to find out the status of implementation of Working Journalists Act and the provision of minimum wages (revised) fixed by the government and to exert pressure towards that end.

Two committees have been formed under the coordination of FNJ vice chair Bipul Pokhrel and general secretary Bista for this purposes.

The committees are to go into action immediately. The meeting also urged the government to honour the freedom of the Press by enabling an easy atmosphere for journalists to enter the Singha Durbar for the news reporting.

More the meeting demanded the immediate reinstatement of Radio Nepal journalists for the Far West State-- Sunita Rawal, Prakash Bam and Chakra Kunwar-- without any conditions.
