Flood again causes damage to diversion

Kaski–Flood has again caused damages to the diversion that was constructed over Bijayapur to connect wards 14 and 26 of Pokhara metropolis – the main entrance to the Gandaki State capital Pokhara.

Murari Mishra, Police Inspector and Chief of District Traffic Office, said the movement of heavy vehicles has been obstructed since this morning due to flood-triggered damage to diversion. It may be noted that the flooding occurred on Saturday evening had taken away the diversion.

Vehicular movement was made smooth from Sunday afternoon after necessary maintenance. It has been difficult to carry out necessary maintenance as the water level in the river is not declining he shared.

Diversion was built to enable heavy vehicles weighing 10 tons to pass through the river after the Bijayapur Bridge was in deteriorating condition.

Though the under-construction Bailey bridge was said to have been brought into operation within June 16 it has yet to be done.

Police have stopped the operation of heavy vehicles at Gagandanda with the damages caused to the diversion. As many as 6,000 vehicles daily used to pass through the Bijayapur Bridge.
