Loaded trucks stranded on road after flood sweeps away diversion

Kaski–Vehicular movement of loaded trucks entering to Pokhara and beyond has come to a standstill after the flood-swollen Bijayapur rivulet swept away the diversion on Sunday.

According to the District Traffic Police Office, Kaski, the flood has blown away the diversion temporarily constructed over the Bijayapur rivulet, the main entrance gate to Pokhara, for the movement of loaded vehicles.

The diversion made up of hum pipes was arranged to ease the movement of heavy vehicles after the motor able bridge over the rivulet saw cracks in its steel beams.

The loaded trucks were banned to move through the bridge following technical glitches. The bridge was constructed a decade ago.

Police informed that the heavy vehicles have been stranded on the road since 5.00 early this morning.

The Division Road Office Pokhara had made necessary preparatory works to initiate installation of Bailey bridge from today.

It may be noted that the temporary diversion was placed to transport the vehicles carrying load over 10 tons following the decrepit condition of the bridge.

Kiran Subedi, sub-engineer of the office, said the movement would be made smooth after installing Bailey bridge within 10 days.
